Being Validated at Work

Times are hard. So you can imagine my reaction when my manager said, "See you tomorrow, thanks for your work". My jaw dropped and my heart melted. I wondered why my she would be thanking me for completing the tasks that have been assigned to me. It then occurred to me that she has been thanking me fin a similar way throughout the past few weeks. Later that day I sat quietly in my room and counted my blessing.  I don't know how many people in the world are as lucky as I am.

But I know that I love my job and look forward to each new day. I rise up early and head to my office. I start work before 8.30 am and work until 4.30 pm, without unnecessary breaks such as a two-hour lunch break with colleagues. I concentrate on the tasks at hand and deliver as is expected of me. I have a strong work ethic and deliver in time. I am also honest, work under minimum supervision and work hard and smart. The best part of it is knowing that my employer notices and always validates my work. And as the credit crunch continues to bite, I am sure that she knows and appreciates the value of having people she can count on.

I hope you too can take time to validate the work someone else does for you. It could be the sweeper or the cleaner, even the guard who secures the premises you work in.
